Teaching Faculty (Lecturer/Sr. Lecturer) - Robotics/AI
About The Position
The Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) at the University of Massachusetts is seeking exceptional educators in computer science and informatics to join its growing Teaching Faculty. Two positions are available: one focused exclusively on robotics, and another focused on AI. Exceptional candidates with expertise in other areas of computer science and informatics will also be considered for the AI position. Full-time teaching faculty will have full faculty voting rights and be eligible for full benefits. The college is looking for individuals committed to teaching and pedagogy, willing to collaborate on curriculum development and refinement, and who intend to remain with the College long-term. CICS is dedicated to "Computing for the Common Good" and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds. Initial appointments will be for 2 years at the rank of Lecturer, with potential for promotion to Senior Lecturer or Senior Lecturer II. After four years of full-time equivalent service, teaching faculty are eligible for a continuous appointment. This is an academic-year appointment (nine months) with typical teaching responsibilities of five courses per year at the undergraduate or graduate level, along with service obligations. Opportunities for additional summer courses may be available for extra compensation. While research is not a required duty, research activities are highly valued.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Strong commitment to, and proven track record of, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in computer science or a closely related field.
- Prior research record in Computer Science or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
- For the robotics position, prior experience with ROS is required, preferably both in simulation and on real robots.

- Expertise in other areas of computer science and informatics (for the AI position).
