Oncology Nurse Practitioner/ Physicians Assistant
About The Position
East Jefferson General Hospital is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for its Outpatient Hematology & Oncology Clinic. This role offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, patient-centered care and build long-term relationships with patients throughout their cancer journey. The position involves working independently while collaborating with physicians and an interdisciplinary care team to deliver exceptional care and support to a diverse patient population, including those undergoing follow-up care, pre-chemotherapy evaluations, symptom management, and treatment plan adjustments.
Requirements
- Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant Program
- Current Louisiana APRN License or Louisiana Physician Assistant License
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
Nice To Haves
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification
- Oncology, Hematology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or related advanced practice experience
- Experience managing complex chronic disease populations
Responsibilities
- Manage own patient panel in an outpatient Hematology & Oncology setting.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients within scope of practice.
- Review laboratory results and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other care team members.
- Monitor patient conditions and evaluate responses to treatment interventions.
- Communicate with patients and families regarding care plans, treatment progress, and concerns.
- Respond to patient calls and messages promptly.
- Recognize and respond to clinical emergencies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Participate in daily huddles, provider meetings, and team initiatives.
- Support quality, safety, regulatory, and infection prevention standards.
- Ensure continuity of care and an exceptional patient experience.
