About The Position

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the the Oncology Nurse Navigator, within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, is a professional whose clinical nursing expertise guides patients, families and their caregivers to informed decision-making. In collaboration with other members of the healthcare team identifies, educates and guides the patient with a cancer diagnosis through the healthcare system for timely screening, diagnosis, treatment and increased supportive care across the continuum.

Requirements

  • Graduate from school of nursing with a BSN required.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.
  • Minimum of three years recent and relevant oncology clinical experience.
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize and manage patient care.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills i.e.: compassion and sensitivity to highly emotional issues.
  • Effective in public speaking and establishing a positive public presence.
  • Highly motivated with strong leadership skills and teaching abilities.
  • Demonstrates ability to holistically assess problematic situations and initiate plan of action in all environments, regardless of support systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to work and function independently in a variety of settings.
  • Knowledge of internal and external resources/services which provide assistance to identified population.

Nice To Haves

  • Oncology nursing certification (OCN) preferred.
  • Experience in program development preferred.

  • Provides nursing care, ensures an environment of patient safety, promotes evidence-based practice and quality initiatives, and exhibits professionalism in nursing practice within the model of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program®.
  • Assess financial needs for all cancer patients as well as all outpatient infusion patients, which includes, but not limited to, reviewing current insurance, disease state, and treatment regimen.
  • Understands clinical disease state and treatment regimens for specific disease processes patients are undergoing, as a result is able provide optimal insurance optimization and copay assistant programs.
  • Proactively anticipates pending financial toxicity for patients, through clinical knowledge and insurance/copay assistance knowledge.
  • Proactively educates patients regarding insurance optimization opportunities to decrease financial burdens/toxicity and assure payment for treatment provided.
  • Educates qualifying patients regarding available external assistance programs when needed.
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skill and passion for access to care and decreasing financial toxicity.
  • Maintains strong, working relationships with other members of the treatment team (i.e. physicians, social workers, nurse navigators, etc.)
  • Participate in activities to enhance professional development.
  • Reports quarterly data: saving and/or recovery of payment generated in this role
  • Functions as a subject matter expert to the Financial Navigation Team
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of the Revenue Cycle Process.
  • Is a member of the Cancer Service line Revenue Cycle Committee and actively responsible for collecting data regarding their savings to patients and the organization.
  • Will present information at meetings with senior leadership.
