About The Position

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is looking for a customer service-oriented individual to fulfill our Onboard Service Host position! This individual will interact with all passengers in standard class seating answering questions while providing concession services. In addition, this position will be called upon to assist the Conductor and Brakeman in situations which require additional support outside of safety sensitive tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and customers, possessing good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older for alcohol service.
  • Must have good equilibrium, not affected by motion, and able to travel by train.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with large groups of people
  • Must be able to walk and function on a moving train.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with the history of D&SNGRR and regional railroading history, preferred.
  • Preferred experience with customer service, guest service, or retail/sales.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for engaging and interacting with all passengers onboard the train, focusing on standard class passengers.
  • Greet and welcome passengers prior to train departure to ensure their understanding of amenities while on board the trains.
  • Drive onboard revenue by actively promoting concession items, highlighting popular products, and using suggestive selling techniques
  • Responsibly serve alcoholic beverages in compliance with company policy and state regulations.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems efficiently, including cash handling and credit transactions.
  • Provide delivery of concession items to passengers who require assistance.
  • Use time management to ensure that all standard class coaches have an equal amount of attention
  • Assist in passenger boarding and de-boarding at assigned boarding stations.
  • Provide information to passengers regarding safety and local history.
  • Answer passengers’ questions about the train’s history, route, and landmarks.
  • Assist operations crew members in customer service initiatives as directed by management.
  • Assist operations crew members with luggage, backpacks, and other non-safety sensitive tasks.
  • Always maintain a clean and professional appearance representative of company values.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures, and safety programs including safety rules, operating rules, and participate in ongoing safety training with staff.
  • Complete any required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely manner.
  • Obtain continuing education in the history of the company and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
