About The Position

On-Call Firefighters work from their local Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Fire Station and are responsible for undertaking a wide range of duties including community fire safety work, attending fires and other emergencies such as motor vehicle accidents or chemical hazards, community education on fire prevention and safety for school children, senior citizens and local businesses, and collaboration with other emergency services such as NSW Ambulance, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Police. On-Call Firefighters are paid for attendance at incidents, training sessions, community safety and education activities.

Requirements

  • Valid NSW Driver's Licence (minimum P1)
  • Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • Live and/or work within a reasonable distance of the FRNSW Fire Station
  • Able to provide daytime availability
  • At least 33% of all calls over a six (6) month period
  • A minimum of 80% of all calls received by the brigade during the compulsory availability in any four week period
  • No less than 75% drill attendance

Benefits

  • Base retainer of $89.75 p/fortnight
  • $38.00 p/hour for incident and drill attendance
  • Training is provided on an ongoing basis and covers all aspects of firefighting and rescue including basic life support, rope work, power tool use and community engagement skills.
