About The Position

Harris County ESD#13 is seeking a full-time, salaried non-exempt Firefighter to fill one open position, with a one-year hiring eligibility list. The position operates on a three-shift, 48/96 rotation after a one-week orientation. The annual salary, including scheduled overtime, is approximately $72,768.44, with a base salary of $62,437.68 per year. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter Certification
  • TDSHS Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) Certification
  • Courage to be Safe Certificates
  • Traffic Incident Management Certificates
  • Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) “Reducing Cancer in the Fire Service” Course
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certificates
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Driving records must comply with departmental driving guidelines and be verified at the background check.
  • Ability to execute all the skills required of a firefighter I and II as defined in the NFPA
  • Ability to proficiently execute all the skills required of an EMT-B
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English
  • Strong team building, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work well without supervision
  • Able to handle suddenly changing work conditions and assignments
  • Working knowledge of emergency operations management and emergency tactics
  • Ability to pass Departmental Physical and Respiratory Protection medical examinations
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
  • Ability to pass the Department’s physical ability test

Responsibilities

  • Execute all skills required of a firefighter I and II as defined in the NFPA.
  • Proficiently execute all skills required of an EMT-B.

  • Pass the Department’s physical ability test.
  • Perform administrative duties in the office.
  • Work in adverse or potentially hazardous environments during training and emergency response.
  • Perform moderate to heavy lifting with protective clothing and SCBA.
  • Be exposed to weather conditions.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for observations, reading, writing, operating equipment, and communicating.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including observing fire suppression activities, running, walking, crouching, crawling, moving equipment and persons, climbing stairs/ladders, walking/standing/sitting for extended periods, performing lifesaving/rescue procedures, and operating equipment.
  • Wear assigned protective clothing and equipment.
  • Deal effectively with personal danger, including exposure to hazardous chemicals, fumes, smoke, intense heat, electrical hazards, and confined or high workplaces.
