About The Position

This job is located in the Field Operations Division of the Orlando Fire Department (OFD) and is under the general supervision of the Company Commander. Firefighters will perform individually and/or as members of a firefighting team and will participate in fire suppression activities, including firefighting, rescue, first aid, ventilation, forcible entry, salvage, overhaul, and inspection practices. Firefighters will attend classroom and drill ground training sessions on a regular basis to continuously update their knowledge and skills required for effective work performance. Decisions are made with the guidance of a supervisor and on an individual level and have a direct effect on life and property. General job functions include (1) Firefighting Emergency, (2) Firefighting - Non-Emergency, (3) Emergency Medical Services, and (4) Work-Related Activities. Certified divers will participate in underwater search and rescue.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Citizenship is required.
  • High School Grad/GED required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required upon application. A Florida driver’s license is required upon date of hire.
  • Ability to Read/Speak English required.
  • Must be a certified firefighter in the state of Florida by the close of the application date.
  • State of Florida Firefighter Certification is required by the close of the application date.
  • EMT/Paramedic Certification is required by the close of the application date. A state of Florida EMT or Paramedic certification must be possessed upon being hired.
  • Successful completion of CPAT and NTN FireTEAM and PSSA Part 1 Testing.
  • Must have passed FireTEAM exam via National Testing Network within 12 months from the date of application.
  • Must have passed CPAT exam within 12 months from the date of application.
  • Must complete the Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA) Part 1 with NTN.
  • Must submit a city of Orlando job application via the City of Orlando Careers website by July 10, 2026.
  • Selected candidates must successfully complete interviews, polygraph exams, a background check, psychological exam and a medical exam.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional $10,000 per year for those employed as Paramedics.
  • Certified divers will participate in underwater search and rescue.

Benefits

  • Salary Information: STARTING SALARY between $64,219- $67,074 annually, based on experience.
