About The Position

We are seeking an On-Call Field Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for a technically skilled and customer-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to providing high-quality IT support. The ideal candidate is highly mobile, dependable, and comfortable traveling throughout the NYC Metro area to support clients on-site as needed. This role offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise with hands-on client engagement while representing a company that values relationships, learning, and excellence. This is an on-call, hourly position with flexible scheduling based on client demand and project needs. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary week to week. The role qualifies for overtime pay in accordance with applicable laws.

Requirements

  • Experience with Virtual Desktop Technologies (VMware, Citrix).
  • Certifications or training in Microsoft, Apple, CompTIA, or Cisco.
  • Firewall and switch administration knowledge.
  • Familiarity with VOIP, telephony, and cable management.
  • Ability to identify, diagnose, and remediate Ethernet/wiring issues.
  • Basic programming knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to build relationships and deliver outstanding client service.
  • Minimum of 2 year experience with a Managed Services IT company preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, trade school education, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Must be mobile and willing to travel throughout the NYC Metro area to support clients on-site.
  • Microsoft and/or Apple certifications desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service and customer support during field visits or dispatches.
  • Perform on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and testing of systems.
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions.
  • Use Bit By Bit’s ticketing system to track issues, time, schedules, and escalations.
  • Document processes and procedures in ITGlue.
  • Follow company protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with technical team members and communicate via Microsoft Teams and email.
  • Act as remote hands for Level 2 and 3 engineers as needed.
  • Manage new employee setup (PC, phone, mobile, cloud services).
  • Troubleshoot Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android devices.
  • Support network and server infrastructure, Active Directory, O365, Google Apps, Exchange, DNS, and backup software.
  • Administer antivirus and spam filtering solutions.
  • Support VMware vSphere ESXi virtual servers.
  • Liaise with ISPs, vendors, and OEMs to resolve issues and facilitate service.
