About The Position

WSP's Cultural Resources Management Team is seeking On-Call Field Archaeologists for a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project. This project involves five multi-component Pre-Contact archaeological sites located near each other, with components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre-Contact periods. Experience with the Eastern Agricultural Complex and the identification and excavation of Pre-Contact features is particularly desirable. This is an on-call, hourly position with industry-competitive rates based on experience.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field.
Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience.
Self-motivated.
Physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions.
Able to follow instructions.
Authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

Experience on Pre-Contact sites.
Experience with the identification and excavation of Pre-Contact features.
Experience with the early use of plants of the Eastern Agricultural Complex.

Responsibilities

Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (with additional work at Phase I and II levels).
Perform archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation.
Excavate cultural features.
Recover and identify archaeological artifacts and other materials.
Use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information.
Work effectively as part of a team.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct.
Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
