About The Position

WSP USA is seeking up to 80 on-call Field Archaeologists for a long-term Phase I archaeological survey project in Pike, Ross, and Pickaway counties, southeastern Ohio. This position is based out of the Louisville, KY, office. The fieldwork is expected to last up to four months, beginning in September 2026, with a work schedule of 6 days on and 1 day off, including 9-hour workdays with travel time to and from the job site. This is an hourly position with industry-competitive rates and overtime pay after 40 hours. While candidates local to Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and West Virginia are preferred, all qualified applicants will be considered.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field.
  • Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience.
  • At least six (6) months of field experience in North American CRM archaeology.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions.
  • Able to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Phase I fieldwork, including archaeological shovel test excavation.
  • Recover and identify archaeological artifacts and other materials.
  • Use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, such as artifact type and number, soil color (Munsell), and soil textures.
  • Document findings through detailed note-taking.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
