About The Position

WSP USA has immediate openings for up to 80 on-call Field Archaeologists with our Louisville, KY, office for a long-term Phase I archaeological survey project located in Pike, Ross, and Pickaway counties, southeastern Ohio. The work schedule will be 6-1 (six days on, one day off) with 9-hour days (including daily travel between the hotel / meeting point and the job site). Fieldwork is expected to begin in September 2026 and continue for up to four months. This is an on-call, hourly position. Hourly rates for this project are industry competitive with time-and-a-half overtime after 40 hours. Candidates local to Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, and West Virginia are ideal due to work location and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered.

Requirements

Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field
Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience
At least six (6) months field experience in North American CRM archaeology
Excellent communication skills
Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions

Responsibilities

Assist with Phase I fieldwork, with specific tasks including: Archaeological shovel test excavation, Recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials, Use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information
Document findings through detailed note taking
Work effectively as part of a team
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
