On Call Custodian
About The Position
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of all areas assigned. This role involves performing janitorial duties, operating motorized cleaning equipment, and maintaining daily upkeep of assigned areas. The position also includes Hazardous Waste responsibilities such as collecting, classifying, storing, shipping, receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, and packaging of special and hazardous waste. The Custodian must comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures, report incidents and hazardous conditions, and work collaboratively with other employees. They are expected to perform repetitive tasks, maintain a clean work area, follow all company protocols, and take direction from supervision. Additionally, the role may involve filling in during staff shortages and supporting shift leads.
Requirements
- No specific education requirement, 3-6 months training or experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- May be required to have a valid driver’s license.
- Completed all safety and task training certification.
- May be required to be forklift certified.
- Bilingual a plus
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment and willing to share with team
- Knowledge of the upkeep and care of the cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Perform janitorial duties
- Perform all duties listed on the daily schedule
- Perform Hazardous Waste responsibilities including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, packaging of special and hazardous waste.
- Operate motorized cleaning equipment
- Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area
- Report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor
- Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Stop at risk behavior of others and self
- Perform work assignments in a team with other employees
- Perform repetitive tasks
- Maintain clean work area
- Follow all protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules
- Take direction and respond to supervision
- Talk with lead, supervisor, co-workers, managers, and customers in a professional manner
- Fill in during staff shortage
- Support shift lead in completing punch-list items
- Use proper personal protective equipment
- Present a professional appearance and conduct
- Understand customer service and satisfaction
- Understand reporting systems, and of the environment
