About The Position

The City of Woodstock is seeking two On-Call Crossing Guards to ensure the safety of children at specified street crossings. This is a permanent part-time, unionized position reporting to the Crossing Guard Supervisor in the Clerks Department. The role requires individuals to be present at the crossing at specified times, wear appropriate safety gear, and escort children across the street while ensuring vehicles stop. The position also involves reporting any incidents or safety hazards to the supervisor and attending scheduled workshops.

Requirements

• Experience working with children
• Experience interacting with the public in a positive and professional manner
• Basic computer proficiency
• Must have access to a vehicle to commute to assigned work location
• Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, employment and proof of qualifications, will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position

Responsibilities

• Ensures children’s safety at specified street crossings
• Arrives at crossing at specified times and remains at crossing for the duration of the shift
• Must wear reflective safety vest and use a hand-held Stop Sign
• Must be able to hold up the hand-held Stop Sign while reaching out the opposite arm for the duration of a few minutes while children are crossing
• Escorts children across the street, ensuring all vehicles stop in accordance with proper procedure
• Reports the description of the vehicle and driver, time and place of incident, and the license plate number of any vehicles refusing to stop to the Supervisor
• Reports consistently disobedient children to the Supervisor
• Reports any incidents or conditions that present a potential safety hazard to the school children or crossing guard to the Supervisor
• Attends all scheduled crossing guard workshops.
