Offshore Recovery Electrical Engineer I

Relativity Space•Cape Canaveral, FL
•$90,000 - $136,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Offshore Recovery Electrical Engineer I supports the design, integration, testing, and operation of electrical systems aboard the recovery barge throughout the engineering lifecycle, including development, construction, sea trials, certification, and offshore mission support. The role provides engineering support for low-voltage control systems, rocket ground systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), networking, high-power distribution, and RF telemetry. The engineer supports offshore recovery operations by verifying electrical system functionality and helping troubleshoot issues so Terran R landings and recovery operations can be conducted safely and reliably. They collaborate with engineering, marine, and operations teams to resolve technical issues, improve system performance, and support mission readiness. Lessons learned from initial recovery operations are incorporated into the design and integration of future landing platforms and recovery systems. The Offshore Recovery team designs, builds, and operates maritime vessels used to land and recover the Terran R launch vehicle. Its work spans requirements definition and design, shipyard construction and activation, and support for offshore recovery missions. The role involves marine and offshore environments and requires an average of at least 25% travel, with possible weekend work and schedule variations. Successful candidates must clear a US government-administered background check to obtain clearance for on-site work at a government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering.
  • Academic projects, internships, or other hands-on experience applying engineering principles to physical hardware or electrical systems.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles and ability to apply technical knowledge to unfamiliar systems and engineering challenges.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and coordinate effectively with engineering, construction, and operations teams.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, contribute to shared technical objectives, and support work outside the primary area of responsibility as project needs evolve.
  • Willingness to travel an average of at least 25% of the time, with potential weekend work and schedule variations.
  • Ability to work in marine and offshore environments and support field activities, system integration, testing, and operational readiness.
  • Must clear a background check administered by the US government to obtain clearance for on-site work at the government partner location in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
