About The Position

The incumbent is responsible for supporting CN’s growing Western Canada business by assuming progressively greater responsibility and leadership in the project management of internal capacity expansion projects, supporting internal teams including Bridges and Structures, Public Works, and Business Development, and developing railroader knowledge. The role is situated within CN’s Western Region, Design and Construction group, and the incumbent is a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training.

Requirements

  • Between 1 and 3 years of experience in project management or the design of rail or linear infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience in, or interest in developing foundational knowledge of, survey, geotechnical, track geometry, hydrology, and grade and track construction, along with experience in or interest in creating and modifying construction specifications, writing, and estimating
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Engineering in Training (EIT)
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive in rural areas at night and in the winter

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Western Region Design & Construction team to lead and execute projects, ensuring schedules are achieved, budgets are maintained, and everyone returns home safely.
  • Conduct site visits to develop an understanding of site conditions and optimize project design and construction outcomes.
  • Support occasional work blocks for in-service projects, which may occur at any time of day or week and are planned in advance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, including municipalities, utilities, and government agencies.
  • Develop familiarity with railway design principles and build the ability to review standards, drawings, and documents, applying critical thinking to identify gaps in submitted deliverables.
  • Respond to emergencies on occasion, including operational issues, derailments, and washouts.
