About The Position

The Credit Underwriting Team Lead is a developing professional role which integrates in-depth specialty knowledge with a solid understanding of industry standards and practices; demonstrates good understanding of how the team and area integrate with others in accomplishing the objectives of the subfunction/ job family. Applies analytical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and methodologies. Breaks down information in a systematic and communicable manner. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required in order to exchange potentially complex/sensitive information. Moderate but direct impact through close contact with the businesses' core activities. Quality and timeliness of service provided will affect the effectiveness of own team and other closely related teams. This position is to support west coast time zones (PST). Applicant will be expected to work until 5pm PST and occasionally to 6pm PST as needed to support the business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to underwriting manager in managing workflow, reviewing underwriting pipeline reports, and handling escalations.
  • Perform daily pipeline review to ensure loans are completed within business service level agreements.
  • Ensure the team meets quality and production standards as defined by the business.
  • Assist in auditing team members, as needed.
  • Mentor processors interested in moving into underwriting or underwriters interested in moving to next level.
  • Provide support with training new hires.
  • Ability to underwrite complicated transactions on multiple loan plans and remain in production as required to maintain lending authority of $2.5MM.
  • Knowledgeable of VA, FHA, Agency, Non-agency and Community lending policies
  • Analyze loan scenarios on complicated transaction on multiple loan plans and answer questions from sales and processing on escalated loans while providing resolution as needed.
  • Effectively communicate and explain credit decisions to loan officers and processors, both verbally and written.
  • Communicate new policies and procedures to the team.
  • Review and analyze procedures for more efficient and cost-effective ways of handling the workflow.
  • Act as Underwriting Subject Matter Expert for special projects.
  • Maintain Daily Control Tracking reports for ARCMs (Activities, Risks, Controls, and Monitoring) and distribute to the appropriate channels.
  • Complete Team Lead Reviews on loans in final decline status to ensure correct decline reasons and disclosures are present.
  • Participate in decline committee process to ensure that all available options have been exhausted for our client before issuing an adverse action letter.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
