About The Position

The Real Property Valuation (Assessments) Division values more than two million residential and commercial property accounts throughout the state. Those values are then certified to local governments, which use the assessments to collect property taxes. The Department is committed to ensuring uniform and accurate assessments statewide, as well as providing a fair and prompt appeal process. This position serves as Administrative Assistant to the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor of Assessments, by facilitating the flow of work through their offices. This position is Mission Critical and Mission Essential.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a high-volume administrative or executive support role.
  • Prior experience with state/local government is highly desirable.
  • Must possess a high degree of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to juggle competing deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Process and track building permits received by paper in database and file completed permits as directed.
  • Support office workflow by preparing, tracking, and filing various SDAT real property reports and correspondence as assigned.
  • Schedule, process, file, and correspond with 1st level hearings, PTAAB and MD Tax Court appeals as directed.
  • Prepare appeal files and print appeal submissions, dockets, reports using database as directed.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to customers seeking assessment related information, homestead credit or homeowners tax credit questions.
  • Prepare, organize, correspond, and file various forms and documents communicated to HR, Accounting, and other government partners as directed.
  • Receive, organize, and distribute mail as directed.
  • Ensure proper date stamps are noted on all incoming mail as directed.
  • Draft, proofread, and format official correspondence and reports.
  • Process departmental invoices, reimbursements, and purchase requisitions; manage office supply purchasing and inventory.
  • Act as the point of contact for the office, fielding and prioritizing internal & external inquiries via phone and email.
  • Maintain and update confidential physical and digital filing systems in compliance with SDAT/DBM retention policies.
