About The Position

The Maryland State Department of Education is dedicated to supporting a world-class educational system that prepares all students for college and career success in the 21st century. With excellent stewardship from our divisions, we oversee State and federal programs that support the needs of a diverse population – students, teachers, principals, and other educators throughout Maryland. As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland. GRADE ASTD10 Salary based on Qualifications and Agency Budget allowance LOCATION OF POSITION Locations may be available Statewide Hybrid schedule may be available after completion of training (up to 3 telework days permitted each week)

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
  • Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support services for professional staff engaged in the planning and delivery of vocational and independent living services.
  • Provide proper interpersonal information to address consumer concerns, general public and private organization inquiries.
  • Direct daily contact consists of providing information to consumers regarding vocational rehabilitation services, problem solving and completing applications.
  • Respond to crisis situations, provide information associated with community services and facilitate access to professional staff to address routine and special needs presented by the public and consumers.
  • Contact physicians, vendors, and community rehabilitation programs to schedule appointments, obtain medical information, obtain/provide billing information, and obtain quotes for preparing authorizations.
  • Prepare Case Service Purchases, prepare bills for payment, resolve billing questions/problems, track/record charge card purchases.
  • Maintain case file records of service.
  • Develop and prepare general correspondence for consumers, vendors, and others.
  • Schedule appointments for consumers with specialists and other allied professionals.
  • Complete payment of invoices.
  • Research current employment openings for consumers.
  • Develop and prepare resumes for consumers.
