About The Position

The Office Payroll Specialist I plays a foundational role in ensuring the accurate and timely payment of wages for our dedicated employee-owners. This position contributes directly to the operational efficiency of our projects by executing core payroll processes, maintaining meticulous records, and resolving payroll inquiries. Your work helps ensure financial compliance and supports the well-being of the teams building complex electrical infrastructure nationwide.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all payroll calculations and data entry.
  • Proficiency with payroll processing software and timekeeping systems; experience with large ERP systems preferred.
  • Solid understanding of basic payroll principles, wage and hour laws, and tax regulations.
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet weekly and monthly payroll deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally with employees, managers, and external partners.
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities for investigating and resolving payroll discrepancies.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of progressive experience in payroll processing, preferably within a construction or unionized environment, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll processing is a plus.
  • A foundational understanding of union collective bargaining agreements as they relate to payroll.

Responsibilities

  • Process weekly payroll for designated employee groups, ensuring accuracy of hours, deductions, and earnings in accordance with company policies and union agreements.
  • Verify and input timecard data, new hire information, and changes to employee records into the payroll system.
  • Respond to and resolve routine employee payroll inquiries regarding pay stubs, deductions, tax withholdings, and vacation balances.
  • Reconcile payroll data, including timekeeping records, benefit deductions, and tax withholdings, to maintain data integrity.
  • Generate payroll reports for internal review and assist with basic auditing procedures.
  • Support the preparation and distribution of W-2 forms and other year-end payroll documents.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Project teams to ensure accurate employee data and timely processing of payroll-related forms.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all payroll and employee information.
  • Stay informed on basic federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as relevant union contract provisions.
