About The Position

At the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD), we are looking for a dynamic Office Manager to lead our Flagstaff team in delivering world-class service to the hunters, anglers, boaters, and conservationists who make our mission possible. You will be the bridge between our agency’s complex regulations and the public we serve, ensuring that our conservation efforts are supported by seamless business operations and exceptional community engagement. Your leadership ensures that our regional office runs like a well-oiled machine, allowing our biologists and officers to focus on the field while you provide the public with the information, licenses, and education they need to enjoy Arizona’s outdoors responsibly. You’ll play a critical role in Continuity of Operations, standing in for leadership during vital decision-making moments and ensuring that every dollar of our regional budget is used effectively to support wildlife. By mentoring customer service staff, you are directly cultivating the next generation of conservation stewards.

Requirements

Knowledge in/of: Commission/Department policies, procedures, all applicable laws, rules and statutes including but not limited to operations, watercraft, accounting, hunting, fishing, state procurement, and ADOA/Department personnel rules and laws; knowledge of public information/education and regional business operations including but not limited to revenue, sales, reporting, and funding; knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
Skilled in: administering programs, coaching, and analyzing complex laws, rules, policies and procedures; task identification/prioritization of multiple projects, budgets and deadlines; reconciling, auditing and statistical analysis of data for reporting; negotiation, conflict resolution, problem solving, customer service, team building and strong interpersonal skills in responding to all inquiries; supervisory/managerial principles and techniques; Oral and written interpersonal communications.
Able to: carry out all topics dealing with all aspects of Department responsibilities related to mission; interpret complex laws, rules, statutes, regulations, policies and procedures; maintain a regional customer service team ensuring goals and missions are obtained; maintain professional harmonious working relationships with customers (external/internal); develop performance and productivity standards, principles and practices of effective public administration; ability to anticipate customer needs.
Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.

Nice To Haves

Leadership Experience: Two to three years of experience as a supervisor or manager in a customer service or operations-heavy environment.
Regulatory Expertise: The ability to interpret and apply complex state laws, commission policies, and department procedures (from hunting/fishing rules to state procurement).

Responsibilities

Lead Regional Operations: Serve as the assistant project lead for statewide programs and act as the primary contact for operations in the Flagstaff region.
Empower a Service Team: Supervise and mentor the three front-counter staff, ensuring they have the training and tools to provide superior education and service to the public.
Manage Resources: Oversee regional budgets, reconcile funding sources, and manage Department property and assets to ensure taxpayer dollars are used with integrity.
Bridge the Gap: Act as the liaison between the Department and the community, interpreting complex wildlife laws and regulations for the public.
Administration of Regional Business Operations and Continuity of Operations: Serves as assistant project lead to Phoenix based programs; coordinates with all Divisions to develop and implement new and existing policies, procedures, directives and forms relative to department business.
Serve as a lead contact to address critical operational issues during Regional Supervisor absences. Ensure laws, rules, statutes and regulations are followed while serving as a regional coordinator for all programs.
Supervision of Customer Service Staff: Oversees front counter public information/education. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, implementing customer service functions to ensure superior customer service.
Direct staff to complete non-administrative projects in support of other programs. Ensure staff is updated with training, new promotions, policies and procedures. Evaluates counter operations/work and sales performance while coaching and mentoring.
Oversight of Regional Budgets and Management of Department Properties: Responsible for but not limited to regular monitoring, reconciling and coordinator of budgets, funding sources, monies/charges, reporting, department's assets/property, inspections, repairs, annual assessments, hazards and liabilities.
Administration of Regional Personnel Actions: Responsible for but not limited to organization and coordination/documentation with HR in the recruitment/interview, hiring, and promotions. Ensure confidentiality is maintained throughout all processes and serves as a regional payroll proxy for regional supervisors.
