About The Position

The Office of the Public Defender in Downtown Baltimore, Maryland is seeking applicants who can provide excellent customer service both in person and over the phone. The primary responsibility for this position is serving as the first point of contact for clients, families, and court members. This position will be assisting attorneys with client communications. Additionally, another primary responsibility of this position is to support the attorneys by downloading discovery, filing, and general office duties. Additionally, this position will provide assistance with data entry and other clerical duties. This position will require use of our internal database (eDefender) and use of various judiciary websites (MDEC, Case search, Jportal). Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. The Office Clerk II position is responsible for managing our reception area. Primary responsibilities for this position include answering phone calls, routing phone calls, distribution of information to external customers, greeting walk-in customers to our reception area. Other clerical duties such as typing, data entry and filing will be secondary responsibilities of this position. Employees in this classification do not supervise.

Requirements

  • Completion of the eighth grade
  • One year experience performing clerical duties in an office environment
  • Ability to communicate with clients and visitors
  • Ability to complete tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to operate a computer
  • Ability to operate a multi-line phone
  • Ability to operate other office equipment
  • Access to a motor vehicle or ability to navigate public transportation
