About The Position

This position is key to accurately compiling and posting information concerning marina operations including completion of slip-holder contracts. This position also leads and assists in training seasonal contractual positions in docking vessels, fueling vessels and checking vessels to ensure they are floating adequately. The Department of Natural Resources, Fishing & Boating, Somers Cove Marina, is currently accepting applications for a 12 Month Office Clerk position.

Requirements

  • Completion of the eighth grade.
  • Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.
  • Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for year basis for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and take messages
  • Lead seasonal employees in general customer service
  • Register and check in boaters
  • Responsible for closing out of POS and Fuel Dock daily
  • Organizes, compiles and accurately records data
  • Communicates with the boating public to acquire information
  • Completes yearly, monthly and weekly deadlines on time and accurately
  • Assist and function as a trainer for contractual employees
  • Assist boaters in docking for fuel, pump outs and slips
  • Answer questions about the marina and local area
  • Perform general housekeeping
  • Pick up litter and any other duties deemed necessary by the classified staff
  • Some heavy lifting is possible
  • Brisk walking a must
