About The Position

The Department of Corrections is looking to hire an Office Associate at the Joliet Treatment Center. This role will be responsible for processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail for individuals in custody. Additionally, the position will maintain records of monies received through mail, keyboard various information, process incoming packages, and distribute mail to individuals who have been discharged, paroled, or transferred. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented and can multitask.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires two years of office experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 45 wpm.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Processes and distributes incoming individual in custody and staff mail.
  • Processes outgoing individual in custody and staff mail according to U.S. Postal Service regulations.
  • Maintains permanent records for each individual in custody's incoming mail concerning monies received.
  • Keyboards a variety of information including records, reports, correspondence and other documents.
  • Processes incoming individual in custody packages.
  • Distributes mail to individuals in custody who have been discharged, paroled or transferred.
  • Reviews and refers publications to the publication review committee.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
