About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking an Office Assistant at Menard Correctional Center. This position is responsible for maintaining a listing of individuals in custody who will be released on parole, performing difficult clerical work, using computers and programs to gather data, and filing materials in master files. In addition, they will copy materials from master files, and assist in the mailroom, as needed. The role involves supporting the Record Office and contributing to the agency's mission of serving justice and increasing public safety by promoting positive change in behavior of individuals in custody, operating successful reentry programs, and reducing victimization.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and one (1) year of related office experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 35 words per minute.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains listing by release date, of all individuals in custody, to be released on parole within one year.
  • Performs difficult clerical work for the Record Office.
  • Uses computer and the programs contained therein to gather data.
  • Files materials in individual in custody master files.
  • Copies materials from master file records.
  • Assists staff in the Mail Room as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
