About The Position

Office Assistants are responsible for processing appointments, customer reception, and encounter management of both visits in person and contacts by phone. Processes medical information including, but not limited to, results and encounter documentation that may be electronic or paper. May have primary or back-up responsibility for managing encounter charge posting and clinic billing functions in an accurate and timely manner. Assists with questions regarding their care and service. Performs additional responsibilities as needed by individual clinic/office settings and as directed by Clinic Supervisor or Clinic Director.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 90 Days of hire)
  • BLS or CPR certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • RN-Registered Nurse - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

Responsibilities

  • Collects pertinent data and information relative to the patient's health or the situation.
  • Recognizes normal and abnormal findings when gathering data.
  • Assists with Pain Clinic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team to address issues related to patients through the process of mutual information sharing, discussion, and decision making.
  • Consistently documents care and service in accordance with current Plan for Provision of Care, systems (i.e. Meditech) and protocols.
  • Consistently processes patient charges for procedures and supplies correctly.
  • Plans and evaluates care in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients.
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues.
  • Educates patients and families appropriately for their procedures and treatment.
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician and/or other disciplines.
  • Handles patient phone calls for patient education and/or reassurance needs.
  • Implements care and supervises care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and approved safety and infection control standards.
  • In collaboration with Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities.
  • Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
  • Participates in the ongoing variance monitoring of clinical pathways.
  • Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Provides rationale for patient care decisions based on standards of care specific to department.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care decisions.
