About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students and is designed to allow students to build experience, grow skills, and contribute to the university community. The Office Assistant will work with the Program Coordinator for the School of International Service’s Ethics, Peace and Human Rights, Intercultural and International Communication, and International Peace and Conflict Resolution programs. The Office Assistant will carry out administrative, communications, marketing, and event tasks. This includes developing bi-weekly newsletters, designing event promotional materials, creating social media posts, and researching job opportunities for current students.

Requirements

  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently on assigned tasks.
  • Must be an enrolled American University student.

  • Social media management skills.
  • Experience with Canva.
  • Experience with Eventbrite.
  • Commitment to develop accessible materials for diverse graduate student body.
  • Candidates are invited to include a link to portfolio/graphic design work samples in application materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data management including developing systems.
  • Research program alumni.
  • Assist with event logistics such as maintaining registration list, creating event webpage, and/or running technology for virtual events.
  • Research and compile relevant professional development and employment opportunities for program students.
  • Use social media to promote events and programs.
  • As applicable, assist with marketing campaigns and website maintenance.
  • Other duties as determined by the Program Team.
