About The Position

Most student positions at American University are eligible to use Federal Work Study (FWS) awards, with a few exceptions. FWS funds cannot be applied to janitorial, construction, partisan or sectarian positions. For information or questions regarding FWS funds, please contact American University's. The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is hiring undergraduate Student Assistants to support student engagement, campus programs, and daily office operations. This role offers hands‑on experience in communication, teamwork, and administrative support while working in a collaborative, student‑focused environment.

Requirements

  • Open to undergraduate students enrolled in an American University degree program for the current/upcoming academic year.
  • Organized, dependable, and self‑motivated.
  • Friendly and professional with strong communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a busy office setting.
  • Proactive and willing to take initiative.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook (or eager to learn).

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, professional assistance to students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Answer phones and respond to inquiries by email, sharing accurate information about CSI programs and resources.
  • Assist with purchase requests, mail processing, and managing two department email accounts.
  • Support office projects involving email correspondence, information collection, and distribution.
  • Help students navigate Engage, American University’s platform for student organizations and involvement opportunities.
