About The Position

This position is part of the Mayor's Summer Youth Jobs Program for individuals aged 16-20 years old. The purpose of this class within the organization is to implement a variety of community, recreational, cultural, special events, and other programs at City of Charleston designated facilities. Employment dates are June 8, 2026, through July 31, 2026, with potential extensions based on availability and departmental needs. This position works under close supervision and performs duties according to established procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be between age 16-20 years old.
  • Requires knowledge in the use of a personal computer and in the application of Microsoft Office Products such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate and interact with others; to understand and interpret safety instructions; and to respond to internal and external inquiries.
  • Ability to understand and comply with City and departmental guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist bureau members with planning of public safety training programs.
  • Help maintain records and databases.
  • Perform data entry, retrieves data and produce various reports.
  • Communicate with other departments.
  • Answer phones, greet and assist guests, and the general public.
  • Work closely with Fire Marshals Office.
