About The Position

The Summer Youth Coach plays a critical role in the Youth Rise program by supporting high school-aged youth involved in the child welfare system in developing essential life skills and career readiness competencies. This position focuses on helping youth build confidence, explore career pathways, and gain practical skills needed for independence and long-term success. Aligned with Youth Rise's core pillars of Career Development, Leadership Development, and Life Skills, the Coach will provide engaging, creative, and trauma-informed coaching that supports each youth's individualized growth plan and future goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, Human Services, Social Work, or related field (required).
  • Experience working with high school-aged youth.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to interpret and support individualized plans.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative.
  • Creative, flexible approach to coaching and engagement.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Candidates are required to complete a criminal background check through the State of South Carolina and Federal Bureau of Investigation; and
  • Pass scheduled and/or random drug tests.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in workforce development, youth development, or life skills training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review youth profiles, assessments, and individualized plans.
  • Collaborate with program staff to align career readiness and life skills programming with overall program goals.
  • Develop interactive workshops and coaching activities (resume building, financial literacy, communication skills, etc.).
  • Prepare materials and experiential learning opportunities aligned with weekly themes.
  • Coordinate guest speakers, career panels, or community-based learning Guide youth in developing individualized career and life plans.
  • Support youth participation in mock interviews, career simulations, and presentations.
  • Reinforce skills through real-world applications and project-based learning.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships that encourage growth, accountability, and confidence.
  • Collaborate with staff to integrate leadership and wellness components.
  • Contribute to final presentations, career portfolios, and program showcase experiences (as applicable).
  • Facilitate daily sessions focused on: Career exploration and job readiness.
  • Life skills (financial literacy, time management, communication, decision-making, cooking, etc.).
  • Workplace readiness (resume writing, interview skills, professionalism).
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on coaching sessions in career readiness and life skills.
  • Create a safe, supportive, trauma-informed environment
  • Design interactive, relevant learning experiences that connect to real-world success.
  • Support development and implementation of individualized youth plans.
  • Track and document youth progress, engagement, and outcomes.
  • Encourage goal setting, accountability, and self-advocacy.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor.
