About The Position

The OER Digital Accessibility (DA) Student Assistant supports faculty in improving the quality, usability, and accessibility of Open Educational Resources (OER) for French 101 and 102. This position is part of a pilot program coordinated by the Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning (CITL) and the UWSP Library. The student assistant will review and revise course materials in Pressbooks (On y Go! 2) to ensure accessibility compliance and usability. Responsibilities include formatting content, adding or revising alternative text for images, reviewing heading structure, and supporting video captioning as needed. The student will also document accessibility updates and track justified exceptions, particularly those related to language-learning pedagogy. All work can be performed remotely, and supervised check-in meetings can be held on Zoom.

  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to learn and apply digital accessibility standards
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student
  • Good academic standing
  • Authorization to work within the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with French 101 and 102 materials
  • Interest in OER, instructional design, or educational technology
  • Background in French or language learning
  • Familiarity with digital accessibility principles (e.g., alt text, headings, captions)
  • Experience with Pressbooks, LMS, or web-based publishing tools
