About The Position

At SageWest Health Care, the Occupational Therapist assesses patients and directly administers occupational therapy treatment modalities as prescribed by a licensed physician. The role provides therapy to patients across age groups, from neonates through geriatrics, and plans individualized care to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, and prevent physical dysfunction. The Occupational Therapist establishes and documents plans of care, goals, anticipated progress, and reevaluation plans; teaches patients and families; and supports discharge planning, including guidance on adaptive equipment and support programs. The position also supervises and delegates work to occupational therapy assistants, technicians, aides, students, and other support personnel in accordance with applicable licensing laws, regulations, and practice standards. The schedule is PRN, with flexibility to work as needed for departmental coverage.

Requirements

Degree from an Occupational Therapy Program.
Current Occupational Therapy License as required by the state of practice.
National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within the time frame specified in facility policy.
Basic computer knowledge and ability to become proficient with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in time management.
Sufficient English speaking, reading, and writing proficiency to perform essential job functions, especially those affecting patient or employee safety or security.
Ability to work flexibly as needed for appropriate departmental coverage.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Interact professionally with patients and families, treating them with respect and dignity and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious or spiritual needs.
Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers, using positive language, appropriate responses, and constructive problem-solving.
Assess patients in relation to requested and provided therapy and complete reassessments according to policy, across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient populations.
Supervise and delegate care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants, therapy technicians, therapy aides, students, and other support personnel.
Assess competence, delegate specific tasks, and establish communication channels in accordance with licensing laws, state regulations, and practice standards.
Administer treatment using physical agent modalities and equipment, including moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
Provide therapy interventions using standard occupational therapy techniques appropriate to the patient's age and condition.
Evaluate, fit, and adjust prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommend modifications.
Plan, prepare, and deliver individualized treatment programs to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, and prevent physical dysfunction.
Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate learning effectiveness, including family participation as appropriate.
Establish an appropriate plan of care with patient involvement according to the patient's capabilities and desires; identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and reevaluation plans.
Plan or assist with patient discharge from therapy services and the treatment setting.
Provide information about appropriate selection and use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
