The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides occupational therapy evaluations, modalities, and treatments as prescribed by a licensed physician to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. The OT helps patients reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. The patient population consists of adult and geriatric patients requiring adult medical rehabilitation services. The OT is accountable for care provided by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and occupational therapy students as indicated. The role may include orienting staff and students and assuming a supervisor’s duties during that person’s absence when qualified. The therapist assesses patient needs, initiates appropriate interventions, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, evaluates treatment effectiveness and progress toward goals, recommends changes to physicians when needed, and completes assessments, reassessments, and quality-improvement scoring according to policy.
