About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Physical Therapy has an exciting opportunity for a full time Occupational Therapist 2 to work in Doral, FL. The Occupational Therapist II plans and conducts individualized occupational therapy programs to help patients develop, regain, or maintain their ability to perform daily activities. Additionally, the incumbent teaches patients skills and techniques and how to use adaptive equipment to participate in activities. The Occupational Therapist II also studies, evaluates, and records patients' activities and progress.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in relevant field required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required
  • Valid State of Florida Occupational Therapist (OT) license required
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in occupational therapy
  • Licensure in occupational therapy
  • Minimum 2 years with board certification equivalency, 4 years without board certification equivalency
  • If 2 years - evidence of training for advanced practice and/or program development in Occupational Therapy.
  • Certification as a Clinical Instructor (CI)
  • 320 hours of Physical Therapy student instruction as a CI
  • Approved minimum 50 hour - curriculum of courses to advance specified clinical expertise

  • Fulfillment of 3 professional development / engagement activities from the Clinical ladder Checklist
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates and articulates sound clinical reasoning in synthesizing complex evaluation data, identifying diagnosis, and developing a comprehensive care plan.
  • Develops and updates an appropriate care plan with measurable goals in collaboration with the patient and their family and based on the person's age and lifestyle.
  • Selects and administers assessment and treatment techniques and performs age-appropriate competency skills evaluations.
  • Follows intervention protocols and revises interventions appropriately.
  • Discharges patient when goals have been met or medical necessity is no longer indicated.
  • Initiates patient and family education relative to age, readiness to learn, and emotional status.
  • Utilizes appropriate methods and materials for effective learning, monitoring response to education, adapting program appropriately.
  • Ensures that patient and family understand when and how to access further intervention.
  • Performs data collection for the department accurately and within the expected time frame.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Utilizes treatment tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintains a satisfactory level of productivity and demonstrates willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of crisis or real clinic need.
  • Participates in program development in specialty area to equip the team in meeting departmental and organizational service needs.
  • Attends and participates in Grand Rounds to represent the Department of Physical Therapy in the domain of Occupational Therapy, and acquires information from our larger medical community to disseminate relevant information for staff development and service delivery.
  • Serves as an advanced clinician to support the department’s educational mission and the health systems development initiatives.
