About The Position

The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services is seeking a dedicated individual with a background in industrial hygiene or occupational safety to join their OSHA enforcement team. As a Health and Safety Inspector, you will travel throughout the state conducting inspections and investigations at worksites. Your role will involve identifying hazards, collecting samples, evaluating work environments, and assisting employers in making lasting improvements. This position offers the opportunity to utilize technical skills in air sampling, noise monitoring, chemical exposure, and ergonomics to protect workers and promote safer work practices.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Understanding of industrial hygiene principles, workplace hazards, and inspection procedures across a variety of industries and high-risk environments.
Skilled in using, calibrating, and interpreting results from industrial hygiene instruments and sampling equipment in accordance with professional and laboratory standards.
Knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations, safety standards, and enforcement practices, including accident investigation techniques.
Proficient in interpreting monitoring data, including statistical analysis, to assess health and safety conditions and ensure compliance with permissible exposure limits.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of preparing technical reports, using standard office and audiovisual equipment, and working in hazardous field conditions.
Bachelor's Degree.
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection and Safety Specialist OR 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically with OSHA) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection and Safety Specialist.

Responsibilities

Conduct health and safety inspections and investigations in workplaces across Wyoming to enforce OSHA standards.
Develop and implement sampling plans using industrial hygiene instruments to assess air quality, noise, chemicals, radiation, ergonomics, and other workplace exposures.
Investigate workplace fatalities, serious accidents, and complaints; document findings with detailed reports, photos, and evidence.
Interview employers, employees, and contractors to evaluate hazard exposure and knowledge of safety requirements.
Issue citations, recommend abatement strategies, and establish correction deadlines in accordance with OSHA regulations.
Evaluate safety and health programs to determine compliance with state and federal standards.
Prepare technical reports, affidavits, and administrative warrants; ensure legal defensibility of all findings and citations.
Research applicable standards and best practices using references such as ANSI, NIOSH, NFPA, and EPA.
Calculate and apply penalties based on the severity and nature of violations.
Input inspection and investigation data into the OSHA Information System (OIS) and provide consultation on improving workplace safety.
