About The Position

The occupational health nurse assistant will support the Occupational Health Nurse in ensuring the health and safety of employees within the workplace. This role involves assisting with clinical care, managing health and safety records, and supporting the implementation of wellness programs. The assistant will play a key role in maintaining a healthy work environment and providing initial responses to workplace health concerns.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a healthcare or health-related background with training and/or experience in patient care, injury assessment, rehabilitation, or wellness programming.
  • Education or experience may include clinical care, sports medicine, occupational health, or related fields.
  • 3+ years’ experience in an industrial or medical setting.
  • Able to communicate with all levels of employees, from upper management to hourly employees.
  • Responsible for driving consistent messages throughout the organization.
  • The ability to do the right thing when no one is looking and strength to stand up when situations arise that put people or the environment at risk.
  • Position will have access to medical records and must be able to keep confidential information secure.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices (first aid, wound treatment, etc.) and knowledge of physical training (stretching, work hardening, strength training).
  • Drives continuous improvement, knowing that even small improvements contribute to the success of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR and first aid certified.
  • Ergonomics experience.
  • Experience leading a health and wellness program.
  • Bilingual in other languages such as Spanish, French, Creole, Burmese, Farsi, Pashto, Bosnian, Vietnamese, and Arabic.

Responsibilities

  • Promote health and safety and help employees cope with illnesses and injuries.
  • Provide employee education on ergonomics and stretching.
  • Evaluate patients for potential care.
  • Take vital signs, provide first aid and triage.
  • Collaborate with physicians, hospitals, and other outside healthcare to provide care for employees.
  • Pre-employment medical history interviews.
  • Monitor and maintain medical supplies.
  • Coordinate return to work for employees, including communicating restrictions.
  • Perform hearing exams and maintain testing records.
  • Perform functional analysis testing of new and existing employees.
  • Assist with ergonomic evaluations and help develop improvements for job functions.
