About The Position

Provides patient care in the Occupational Health setting, either in the office or onsite, under the supervision of the medical provider. This role involves meeting the communication needs of companies, patients, and the medical provider, while adhering to regulatory requirements and established policies and procedures. The Medical Assistant will communicate with medical providers and staff regarding patients' clinical conditions.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant certification.
  • Ability to provide patient care in an occupational health setting.
  • Ability to meet communication needs of companies, patients, and medical providers.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in maintaining and updating medical records.
  • Experience with breath and/or urine substance abuse testing.
  • Ability to administer medications/vaccinations.
  • Skills in appointment scheduling.
  • Ability to facilitate medical requests.
  • Experience scanning and uploading patient clinical documents.
  • Ability to process and coordinate medical provider orders.
  • Ability to review daily schedules and prepare for patient encounters.
  • Willingness to provide patient education.
  • Willingness to attend trainings.
  • Experience with patient registration, insurance verification, and worker's compensation claims/referrals.
  • Experience with charge entry for billing purposes.
  • Ability to ensure exam room equipment is clean and set up.
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness of personal workspace and department.
  • Ability to monitor and request clinical supplies.
  • Ability to maintain clinical equipment.
  • Ability to evaluate equipment for damage or maintenance needs.

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming patients and visitors.
  • Answering and referring inquiries within scope of practice.
  • Answering telephone calls, processing calls, scheduling patient appointments, and documenting appropriately within medical records.
  • Returning all messages in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining communication between medical staff, administrative staff, companies, and/or patients/families.
  • Maintaining and updating medical records.
  • Performing breath and/or urine substance abuse testing in accordance with established policies/procedures and ensuring appropriate disposition of specimens.
  • Administering medications/vaccinations as ordered by the medical provider.
  • Assisting in appointment scheduling and onsite services scheduling.
  • Facilitating medical requests, including refill requests, work/school notes, and form completion.
  • Scanning and uploading patient clinical documents into the medical chart.
  • Processing and coordinating all medical provider orders, including diagnostic, referral, pharmaceutical, and surgical services.
  • Reviewing daily provider schedules and ensuring all supplies and medical records are ready for patient and provider encounters.
  • Providing patient education as directed by the medical provider and within the scope of practice.
  • Attending trainings as needed by the department for hearing and CPR instructor.
  • Assisting with patient registration, insurance verification, and submission of worker’s compensation claims/referrals.
  • Assisting with the entry of charges for billing purposes for companies and patients.
  • Ensuring all equipment in exam rooms is clean and properly set up.
  • Contributing to the overall cleanliness and appearance of personal workspace and department.
  • Monitoring clinical supply levels in exam rooms and stock room and requesting when needed.
  • Maintaining all clinical equipment.
  • Evaluating all equipment for damage or maintenance needs and reporting when needed.
