About The Position

The University of Colorado Anschutz Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Obstetric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to join our Obstetric Anesthesia Section. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painful invasive procedures, and childbirth. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals have top nationally recognized physicians delivering the best possible anesthetic care as well as a full range of perioperative care. The anesthesiologist provides specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. Requirements

Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
Either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Fellowship-trained in obstetric anesthesiology.
Strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine.
Experience in teaching Anesthesiology.

Responsibilities

Administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants.
Examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows the patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.
Providing comprehensive anesthesia care for high-risk obstetric patients, including labor analgesia, managing perioperative care during obstetric procedures, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal maternal and fetal outcomes.
Provide solo obstetric and fetal anesthesia care at the Colorado Fetal Care Center, located at the Children’s Hospital Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
Perform clinical duties in any of the University of Colorado School of Medicine affiliated hospitals to include University of Colorado Hospital affiliates.
May be required to perform services in the operating room, in the labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in the outpatient procedure center.
Contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School, which may include preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction.
Contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.
