About The Position
The Division of Data Science and Society (DSS) at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Data and Information Sciences (SDIS) is conducting an open-rank tenure-track faculty hiring initiative to enhance research and innovation in data science. The division seeks researchers working in or across data science foundations, the societal impact of data science, and applications in medical, social, physical, biological, and environmental sciences. Research areas include data collection, storage, dissemination, and translation into actionable insights; mathematical, computational, and statistical algorithms and models for analyzing and using data; applications that advance interdisciplinary knowledge and address social issues; and examination of unintended consequences and ethical questions associated with using data to tackle societal challenges. Faculty will contribute to an interdisciplinary research environment and collaborate with faculty, students, external partners, and community groups to translate research discoveries into societal benefits.
