About The Position

This role functions as a Scrub Assistant in the Operating Room (OR) and also has responsibilities in the Delivery Room and general patient care. The OB Technician is responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team, maintaining sterile supplies, and performing various patient care and environmental tasks. This position requires adherence to aseptic techniques and effective communication with the nursing team.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Successful completion from a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologist, and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist (CST) credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), required.
A person may be employed or contracted with to practice surgical technology during the 12-month period immediately following successful completion of a surgical technology program, but may not continue to be employed beyond that period without documentation that the employee holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential required.
Must be and remain in good standing with NYS regulations, required.
Ability to lift, turn and position patients, required.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Candidate must be female (BFOQ).

Nice To Haves

Prior PCA, fetal monitoring and Labor & Delivery experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

Functions as a Scrub Assistant.
Sets-up tables and prepares room for procedures.
Ensures sufficient sterile supplies and instruments on the Unit.
Performs transport duties.
Surgically scrubs for OBS and GYN procedures.
Prepares patient for delivery in LDR's.
Cleans instruments and equipment to be returned for sterilizing.
Checks sterile equipment for expiration dates.
Stocks labor and Delivery area daily.
Stocks admitting rooms with OB Admission Packs and other needed supplies.
Makes unoccupied beds and stretchers and assures that there is a pillow for each bed.
Maintains non-patient areas in neat and orderly condition.
Assures rolling equipment is clean.
Reports missing or damaged equipment.
Defrosts and cleans refrigerators.
Cleans closet, drawers, and equipment.
Stocks soap dispensers for hand scrubbing.
Performs related duties, as required.
