Kenworth Truck Company is seeking a Structural Dynamics and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) CAE Engineer to support Product Development by using simulation to analyze new designs and provide recommendations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
  • 5-7+ years of professional experience required.
  • Requires a solid understanding of structural dynamics, NVH in motor vehicles, Acoustics, Sound Quality Metrics, Modal Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, and Linear Vibrations
  • Demonstrate the ability and desire to learn new tools and stay updated with the latest technological advancements in the industry
  • Work independently while building cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve goals and outcomes meeting expectations of internal and external customers
  • Effective analysis and project management skills and excellent engineering judgment
  • Effective communication, administration, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage personal workload, demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and the willingness to respond to shifting timelines and project demands

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • Prior structural dynamics and NVH simulation, testing, or modal analysis experience is preferred
  • Experience in the use of concept mock-ups /parameterization in CAE, targeted towards NVH performance
  • Knowledge of vehicle structures and NVH sub-system analysis for Body/Chassis/Powertrain
  • Knowledge of Automotive structural solutions for NVH design requirements
  • Experience with test sensors, and data acquisition equipment, including Accelerometers, linear transducers, microphones, NI LabView, LMS Test.Lab/Virtual.Lab, Artemis, HEAD Acoustics, etc. preferred
  • Experience with simulation software such as HyperWorks, Abaqus, NASTRAN, ACTRAN, ANSYS, MSC ADAMS, MATLAB, etc. preferred
  • Experience with CAD software: Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, Catia, etc. preferred)
  • Background in the automotive or heavy truck industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform full-vehicle and subsystem simulation of heavy and medium-duty vehicles to assess ride comfort, structure-borne noise, and dynamic behavior that could impact durability
  • Guide Engineering Design in the development, tuning, and optimization of dynamic system performance
  • Collaborate with Property Owner for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) and Ride Comfort to set Sound Pressure Level and sound quality performance targets for new vehicles
  • Conduct or coordinate work with internal and external simulation and test resources including other PACCAR divisions
  • Collaborate with the Property Owner to conduct or coordinate benchmark tests of PACCAR and competitive vehicles
  • Perform correlation studies between test data and CAE data to improve modeling and analysis techniques
  • Deliver simulation Engineering reports stating clear recommendations and proposals for improvements to Engineering teams
  • Provide technical leadership in the creation of a roadmap for vehicle NVH performance, simulation, and test capabilities to support new product development
  • Mentor vehicle engineers in the principles of design for NVH
