About The Position

As a Nutritionist/Health Educator with the North Central Health District’s WIC program you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. This position is for a full-time Nutritionist/Health Educator supporting two locations. The role will be based at the Family Advocacy WIC office in Warner Robins, GA on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and at the Crawford County Health Department in Roberta, GA on Wednesdays. This schedule offers a consistent opportunity to work across both sites each week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; and verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Or Active enrollment in a graduate-level nutrition program at an accredited college or university.
  • Applicants qualifying based on a degree or current enrollment in a graduate-level nutrition program must upload official transcripts for verification.
  • Transcripts must demonstrate a minimum of 18 semester hours in Nutrition Education.
  • Applicants qualifying based on possession of a Verification Statement must also submit documentation confirming their credential.

Responsibilities

  • Assess nutritional status and special needs of women, infants, and children from health records, dietary questionnaires, and knowledge of community issues.
  • Provide counseling and develop care plans for women, infants, and children who meet high-risk criteria.
  • Work with participants and/or their caregivers to help them set their own goal for change using Motivational Interview technique.
  • Record proper SOAP documentation within the participant's electronic medical records.
  • Make referrals to and coordinate care with health care providers and community agencies when appropriate.
  • Utilize accurate techniques for measuring weight and height for infants, children, and women.
  • Screen applicants who may be at risk for iron deficiency anemia.
  • Maintain professional standards with updated training that will include travel and may require overnight stay.
  • Ensure breastfeeding is promoted.
  • Share nutritional education resources and information.
  • Teach group nutrition education classes as needed.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local agency policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform additional professional responsibilities as assigned.
