About The Position

The Nutritional Assistant I role at Advocate Christ Hospital & Medical Center is a part-time position responsible for providing high-quality patient service in assembling trays, distributing and retrieving patient trays, and delivering nourishments and floor stock. This role involves direct patient interaction, ensuring dietary needs and restrictions are met, and maintaining a positive dining experience for patients.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED
6 months in customer service field/office
Good Computer skills and able to navigate on computer
Good communication skills
Detail and results oriented
Strong organizational skills
Mathematical competence
Ability to communicate effectively; written and verbal
Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently
Have a neat and professional appearance
Ability to work under stressful/difficult conditions

Responsibilities

Assembles patient trays according to menu selections, ensuring accuracy and compliance with dietary restrictions and allergies.
Delivers meal carts and patient meals to assigned nursing areas within designated timeframes, verifying diet and meal accuracy at the point of service.
Provides guest relations by maintaining a professional image, assisting patients with opening containers, demonstrating a caring attitude, and responding positively to requests.
Communicates incorrect or missing items to the kitchen and patient needs to nursing staff.
Delivers nourishments and floor stock to assigned patients and unit kitchens.
Takes patient menu selections, confirms needs/requests, and discusses needs and tray delivery times with nursing or department associates.
Offers alternatives to menus as allowed by prescribed diets and interacts with nursing to ensure diet orders are accurate and patient food needs are met.
Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately or reports them to a supervisor.
Assists dieticians with monitoring patients who are NPO, on liquid diets, or have a calorie count ordered.
Delivers patient trays properly, communicating effectively with patients, family, nursing, guest service representatives, and tray line associates.
Communicates special patient needs to dieticians and diet clerks.
Assists with training of other associates.
Attends scheduled huddles, in-services, and meetings, and participates in QA/CQI documentation.
Takes and documents temperatures of steam table items, menu receipt time, and tray departure time.
Receives, fills, and delivers patient tray items to satisfy customer needs.
Attends orientation and area-specific meetings for communication exchange and to stay current on changes.
