About The Position

This part-time position is responsible for providing high-quality patient service in assembling, distributing, and retrieving patient trays, as well as delivering nourishments and floor stock. The role involves direct patient interaction, ensuring dietary needs and restrictions are met, and maintaining a positive dining experience. The Nutritional Assistant also handles patient calls, communicates patient needs, and participates in training and quality improvement processes.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED
  • 6 months in customer service field/office
  • Good Computer skills and able to navigate on computer

Responsibilities

  • Assembles patient trays according to menu selections and dietary restrictions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with diet orders and allergy information.
  • Delivers meal carts and patient trays to assigned nursing areas within designated timeframes, verifying diet and meal accuracy at the point of service.
  • Provides guest relations by maintaining a professional image, assisting patients with opening containers, demonstrating a caring attitude, and responding positively to requests.
  • Communicates any wrong or missing items to the kitchen and patient needs to nursing staff.
  • Delivers nourishments and floor stock to assigned patients and units.
  • Takes patient menu selections, confirms needs/requests, and discusses needs and tray delivery times with nursing or department associates.
  • Offers alternatives to menu selections as allowed by prescribed diets and interacts with nursing to ensure diet orders are accurate and patient food needs are met.
  • Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately or reports needed assistance to a supervisor.
  • Maintains accurate patient information and assists with monitoring patients on specific diets (NPO, liquid, calorie count).
  • Utilizes "Just for You" call system and Care Connection/CBord information for patient care.
  • Communicates effectively when assisting patients and/or family, and between departments to clarify orders and provide prompt service.
  • Communicates special patient needs to dieticians and diet clerks.
  • Assists with training of other associates and attends scheduled huddles, in-services, and meetings.
  • Participates in QA/CQI documentation process.
  • Takes and documents temperatures of all steam table items, menu receipt time, and tray departure time for delivery.
  • Receives, fills, and delivers patient tray items to satisfy customer needs.
  • Attends huddles, in-services, and training sessions to stay current with procedures, DNV requirements, and departmental changes.
  • Completes annual CBTs and attends orientation and area-specific meetings.
  • Learns ways to apply CQI to ensure customer satisfaction.
