About The Position

The Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school cafeteria and kitchen, ensuring food safety, managing inventory, supervising staff, and assisting with special dietary needs. This role involves opening and closing the facility, managing food preparation, handling finances, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The supervisor also plays a key role in encouraging student participation in meal programs and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • SafeServ certification preferred or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Background check completion
  • Pre-employment physical required prior to employment

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year supervisory experience in a high volume service environment
  • 2 years quantity cooking experience

Responsibilities

  • Opens and unlocks facility, starts all equipment, checks and logs equipment temperatures to ensure food safety.
  • Sets up the cafeteria and kitchen for the day.
  • Performs final close down daily to ensure safety guidelines are met.
  • Enters and maintains data, including preparation lists, signage, and production records to project for present and future production to limit waste/cost.
  • Manages email communications and follow-up.
  • Provides day-to-day supervision, guidance, and training for staff of approximately 2-3 members.
  • Conducts daily feedback, documentation, cross-training on equipment/duties, annual performance reviews, and provides input in site hiring decisions.
  • Manages inventory, creates orders, and receives deliveries for a building with enrollment around 300-650 students.
  • Codes delivery invoices.
  • Maintains equipment and schedules repairs, including work orders.
  • Ensures food safety, including temperature checks, routine equipment maintenance, and proper cleaning/sanitizing.
  • Develops and delegates job duties.
  • Assists Dietitian with Special Diets, including reviewing menus and guidelines, reading food labels, and ordering special diet foods.
  • Prevents cross-contact and ensures safe food for service.
  • Communicates with Dietitian, parents/guardians, nurses, and teachers related to student needs.
  • Ensures compliance with monthly supervisor meetings, monthly safety training, USDA posting requirements, and preparation for state and health inspections.
  • Encourages increased participation in school meals programs via bulletins, events, challenges, and additional ideas.
  • Monitors the serving area to prevent theft.
  • Approves assigned kitchen staff’s time, reviewing, verifying, and approving hours worked and leave time.
  • Oversees and participates in the preparation of breakfast and lunch meals daily and a la carte items.
  • Performs food preparation tasks including washing produce, cutting, mixing, temping foods, preparing frozen food for cooking, labeling food, etc.
  • Records production information on the production sheet.
  • Cooks foods in commercial ovens, steamer, warmers, microwave, kettles/skillets.
  • Performs cashiering, money handling, end-of-day PrimeroEdge duties, and parent negative balance calls.
  • Serves food to students.
  • Manages classroom treat catering, including ordering pre-packaged treats, packaging, and distributing treats.
  • Verifies cash deposits at the end of the day.
  • Conducts end-of-year inventory and closes the kitchen for summer, if applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
