About The Position

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Nutrition Services Specialist to join our Ft. Thomas Nutrition Services Team. This is a part-time position with 16 hours per week, primarily on the second shift. The role involves performing various functions within Nutrition Services, including customer service, nutrition assistance, call center operations, cooking, and serving. Job duties may vary daily due to staffing needs, and the position may also assist with project completion. A key aspect of the role is demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read with comprehension and follow written and verbal instructions
  • 3 months experience including customer service responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform various roles in Nutrition Services, including customer service, nutrition assistance, call center, cook, and server.
  • Assist with project completion as needed.
  • Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions.
  • Deliver and serve meals and nourishments to patients professionally and courteously.
  • Instruct patients and families on the meal ordering system and diet restrictions.
  • Assess patients' ability to use the meal order system and follow up with appropriate staff if needed.
  • Assist patients and/or families with food orders, including facilitating interpreter needs and special assistance.
  • Act as a liaison between the Nutrition department, patients, and nursing units.
  • Communicate effectively with members of other departments regarding patient support and issues.
  • Report nutrient intake from meals.
  • Anticipate and respond to patient and team member needs.
  • Serve as a quality control point for the room service program.
  • Record and document data for Performance Improvement monitors.
  • Order and replenish bulk food supplies on nursing units.
  • Assist with timely retrieval of completed meals from patient rooms.
  • Participate in patient tray assembly, line setup, and restocking.
  • Check all meals for accuracy and adherence to quality assurance goals.
  • Check food items for acceptable quality, portion, and diet compliance.
  • Monitor tray line support positions to ensure task completion.
  • Ensure timely dispatch of meal carts and flow of the delivery process.
  • Communicate with ambassadors for patient tray needs and urgent orders.
  • Assure compliance with food safety practices, including proper food temperatures, handling, and dating.
  • Prepare, assemble, and plate food items for patient tray needs, ensuring compliance with recipes, diet specifications, and quality.
  • Load meal carts ensuring correct placement, silverware, timer, and time standards for dispatch.
  • Deliver and retrieve patient meal tray carts and stock to patient care units.
  • Process all utensils and dishware according to sanitary guidelines.
  • Re-stock clean dishware in cafeteria, cook’s, and trayline areas.
  • Perform janitorial tasks, such as cleaning equipment, work surfaces, mopping, sweeping, and trash disposal.
  • Follow sanitation and safety guidelines.
  • Check and document equipment temperatures and chemical concentrations for quality control.
  • Utilize software systems to place electronic meal orders, change diets, and update patient information.
  • Maintain computerized diet office menu system (CBord).
  • Process reports and update data.
  • Assist patients and/or family with meal orders via the telephone call center.
  • Transposes meal orders into the CBord system.
  • Verify meal orders meet diet order and dietary parameters.
  • Process diet requisitions.
  • Coordinate Call Center workflow during peak volumes.
  • Mediate patient concerns regarding meal service.
  • Serve food to cafeteria customers in compliance with portion control and food handling procedures.
  • Prepare short orders for cafeteria service.
  • Maintain adequate food supplies for cafeteria service.
  • Assist with catering functions.
  • Record sales transactions on a computerized register.
  • Accurately receive cash and give change.
  • Stock supplies in the cafeteria.
  • Handle customer complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Prepare food items for customer self-service.
  • Prepare, cook, and serve food per customer order.
  • Stock and rotate workstation with needed supplies and materials.
  • Assemble, measure, and prepare ingredients for station menu service.
  • Follow standardized recipes and assist with recipe development and testing.
  • Ensure food safety and cleanliness of workstation.
