About The Position

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Nutrition Services Specialist to join our Edgewood Nutrition Services Team. This role is responsible for performing various roles in Nutrition Services, including customer service, nutrition assistance, call center operations, cooking, and serving. Job duties may vary daily due to staffing needs. The position also assists with project completion as required. A key aspect of this role is to demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • 3 months experience including customer service responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and serves meals and nourishments to patients professionally and courteously, adhering to scripting and service standards.
  • Resolves patient meal tray/order problems promptly and effectively.
  • Instructs patients and families on the meal ordering system, providing correct menus and orienting them to diet restrictions.
  • Assesses patients' ability to use the meal ordering system and follows up with nursing/nutrition staff if needed.
  • Assists patients and/or families with food orders, facilitating interpreter needs and special assistance.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Nutrition department, patients, and nursing units, communicating effectively regarding patient support and issues.
  • Reports nutrient intake from meals and anticipates/responds to patient/team member needs.
  • Serves as a quality control point for the room service program, recording data for performance improvement and ensuring actions align with service goals.
  • Orders and replenishes bulk food supplies on nursing units and assists with timely retrieval of completed meals from patient rooms.
  • Participates in patient tray assembly, line setup, and restocking, checking meals for accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Checks food items for acceptable quality, portion, and diet compliance.
  • Monitors tray line support positions to ensure task completion and preparation for meal periods.
  • Ensures timely dispatch of meal carts and smooth delivery process.
  • Communicates with ambassadors regarding patient tray needs and urgent orders.
  • Assures compliance with food safety practices, including proper food temperatures, handling, and dating.
  • Prepares, assembles, and plates food items for patient tray needs, ensuring compliance with recipes, diet specifications, and quality.
  • Participates in patient tray assembly, ensuring compliance with diet specifications, meal ticket orders, and proper presentation.
  • Loads meal carts, ensuring correct placement, silverware, timer, and adherence to time standards.
  • Delivers and retrieves patient meal tray carts and stocks to patient care units.
  • Processes all utensils and dishware through automated dishwashers according to sanitary guidelines.
  • Restocks clean dishware in cafeteria, cook's, and trayline areas.
  • Performs janitorial tasks, including cleaning equipment, work surfaces, mopping, sweeping, and trash disposal.
  • Follows sanitation and safety guidelines to ensure wholesome foods and prevent foodborne illness.
  • Checks and documents equipment temperatures and chemical concentrations for quality control.
  • Performs the role of Call Center Clerk, utilizing software systems for meal orders, diet changes, and patient information updates.
  • Maintains the computerized diet office menu system (CBord) to reflect orders, processing reports and updating data.
  • Assists patients and/or families with meal orders via telephone, creating a service culture and transposing orders into the CBord system.
  • Verifies meal orders meet diet orders and dietary parameters, processing diet requisitions.
  • Coordinates Call Center workflow during peak volumes to ensure timely response to callers.
  • Mediates patient concerns regarding meal service, anticipating needs and providing appropriate service.
  • Serves food to cafeteria customers in compliance with portion control, safe food handling, and positive customer relations.
  • Prepares food, including short orders, for cafeteria service according to menu requirements.
  • Maintains adequate food supplies for cafeteria customers.
  • Assists with catering functions, including inventory and stocking supplies.
  • Records sales transactions on a computerized register according to established guidelines.
  • Accurately receives cash and provides change according to control guidelines.
  • Stocks cafeteria supplies to meet established levels and customer demands.
  • Handles customer complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Prepares food items for customer self-service, ensuring adequate supply and quality.
  • Prepares, cooks, and serves food per customer order in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Stocks and rotates work stations with needed supplies and materials.
  • Assembles, measures, and prepares ingredients for station menu service.
  • Follows standardized recipes and assists with recipe development and testing.
  • Ensures food safety and cleanliness of workstation to meet HCAAP and Infection Control guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
