About The Position

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Nutrition Services Specialist to join our Ft. Thomas Nutrition Services Team. This role is responsible for performing various functions within Nutrition Services, including customer service, nutrition assistance, call center operations, cooking, and serving. Job duties may vary daily based on staffing needs. The position also assists with project completion as required. A core aspect of this role is to demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues, regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read with comprehension and follow written and verbal instructions
  • 3 months experience including customer service responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and serves meals and between-meal nourishments to patients professionally and courteously, adhering to scripting and service standards.
  • Resolves tray/order problems promptly and effectively.
  • Instructs patients and families on the meal ordering system, providing correct menus (diet compliant) and orienting them to diet restrictions.
  • Assesses patients' ability to use the meal ordering system and follows up with nursing/nutrition staff if they cannot participate.
  • Assists patients and/or families with food orders, facilitating interpreter needs and special assistance.
  • Acts as a liaison between Nutrition, patients, and nursing units, communicating effectively with other departments regarding patient support, issues, and requests.
  • Reports nutrient intake from meals and anticipates/responds to patient/team member needs.
  • Serves as a quality control point for the room service program, recording data for performance improvement monitors.
  • Orders and replenishes bulk food supplies on nursing units and assists with timely retrieval of completed meals from patient rooms.
  • Participates in patient tray assembly, line setup, and restocking.
  • Checks all meals for accuracy, quality, portion, and diet compliance.
  • Monitors tray line support positions to ensure task completion and preparation.
  • Ensures timely dispatch of meal carts and efficient delivery.
  • Communicates with ambassadors regarding patient tray needs, urgent orders, or replacement items.
  • Ensures compliance with food safety practices, including proper food temperatures, handling, and dating.
  • Prepares, assembles, and plates food items for patient trays, ensuring compliance with recipes, diet specifications, and quality standards.
  • Loads meal carts, ensuring correct placement, silverware, timers, and adherence to time standards.
  • Delivers and retrieves patient meal tray carts and stocks to patient care units.
  • Processes all utensils and dishware according to sanitary guidelines.
  • Restocks clean dishware in cafeteria, cook's, and trayline areas.
  • Performs janitorial tasks, including cleaning equipment, work surfaces, mopping, sweeping, and trash disposal.
  • Follows sanitation and safety guidelines to ensure wholesome foods and prevent foodborne illness.
  • Checks and documents equipment temperatures and chemical concentrations for the quality control program.
  • Performs the role of Call Center Clerk as assigned, utilizing software systems for meal orders, diet changes, and patient information updates.
  • Maintains the computerized diet office menu system (CBord) to reflect orders, supplements, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Processes reports and updates data.
  • Assists patients and/or families with meal orders via the telephone call center, creating a service culture.
  • Transposes meal orders into the CBord system for menu processing and coordination.
  • Verifies meal orders meet diet orders and dietary parameters; processes diet requisitions.
  • Coordinates Call Center workflow during peak volumes to ensure timely response to callers.
  • Mediates patient concerns regarding meal service and anticipates patient needs.
  • Serves food to cafeteria customers in compliance with portion control, safe food handling, and positive customer relations.
  • Prepares food, including short orders, for cafeteria service.
  • Maintains adequate food supplies for cafeteria service.
  • Assists with catering functions, including inventory and stocking supplies.
  • Records sales transactions on a computerized register.
  • Accurately receives cash and gives change.
  • Stocks supplies in the cafeteria.
  • Handles customer complaints in a timely and positive manner.
  • Prepares food items for customer self-service, ensuring adequate supply and quality.
  • Prepares, cooks, and serves food per customer order in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Guides servers on plating and presentation of menu items.
  • Stocks and rotates workstation with needed supplies and materials.
  • Assembles, measures, and prepares ingredients for station menu service.
  • Follows standardized recipes and assists with recipe development and testing.
  • Ensures food safety and cleanliness of workstation.
