About The Position

Under the supervision of a manager, the Nutrition Services Assistant supports school nutrition staff in preparing and serving meals in a clean environment while following health and sanitation rules and regulations. The position performs semi-skilled kitchen and food preparation tasks, cleans and sanitizes kitchen areas and equipment, prepares and maintains serving lines, serves students and teachers, responds to questions about food, and handles supply receipt, storage, and inventory updates.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Nice To Haves

• 1–3 years of work experience in food preparation.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled kitchen tasks to prepare food for serving, including slicing and chopping vegetables, cooking vegetables and meat, mixing pastries, and measuring ingredients according to daily menu guidelines and established quantities.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, counters, and tables, and mop and sweep floors daily in compliance with state health regulations.
• Prepare serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging the appropriate number of pans in the correct sequence.
• Serve students and teachers appropriate quantities in a friendly manner.
• Keep the serving line clean and replenished.
• Answer customer inquiries about food contents or nutritional value, or refer questions to appropriate personnel.
• Receive supply orders and verify quantities ordered and shipped against invoices.
• Store food and supplies upon receipt and update inventory records to ensure necessary supplies remain available.
