About The Position

The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is seeking a Nutrition Educator to assist the Local Agency’s WIC Program. The individual in this position will assist with Coordinating nutrition education services in addition to implementing and monitoring the policies and procedures of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC Program) for the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County to assure compliance with Federal regulations and state policies and procedures as described in the WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, WIC Data System User Guide, WIC Data System Manager Guide, WIC CPA (Competent Professional Authority) Guidebook, Formula Reference Guide and Formulary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, human nutrition, food & nutrition, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics accredited program (Florida Statues Chapter 468, section 509)
  • One or more years of nutrition experience.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of WIC experience.
  • Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Certifying Clients for participation in the WIC Program in accordance with policies and regulations states in the WIC Manual.
  • Provides nutrition education on a group or individual basis in the area of infant, childhood, prenatal and postnatal (including breastfeeding) nutrition to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition habits.
  • Maintains productivity standards for nutrition education and counseling.
  • Performs anthropometric duties to include hemoglobin as needed.
  • Uses FL Wise, e-Progress and other programs developed by the local agency WIC program to perform clinic functions.
  • Coordinates nutrition education services for assigned clients and makes referrals for appropriated services.
  • Accurately completes and enters all forms and information such as EAR’s, contact documentation, leave and attendance records, mileage, etc., by the required deadline.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional and staff development activities.
  • Develops monitors, evaluates and revises nutrition education plans for individual clients not at medical high nutritional risk.
