About The Position

This is an in-office position only. Specialized work under the direction of the nutrition program director. It requires a high degree of accuracy, involves close interaction with other personnel of the CHD, and maintenance of confidentiality. The employee adheres to all standards associated with the position and follows all federal, state and Hendry and Glades CHD policies and procedures. All employees are also required to have periodic screening for tuberculosis infection. Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition.
  • WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • Willing to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  • Willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

  • This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bi-lingual, or implementation of the Department's Limited English Proficiency Plan.

Responsibilities

  • Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24.
  • Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client using the VENA concept to provide appropriate nutritional counseling.
  • Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines.
  • Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk care plan using the SOAP format.
  • Refers all medically high-risk clients to a Licensed Nutritionist.
  • As necessary, refers client to appropriate outside agency, documenting referral.
  • Assigns appropriate food packages.
  • May conduct a group nutrition education class.
  • Completes FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided.
  • Protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding; assures local site reflects a Breastfeeding Friendly atmosphere.
  • Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breastpumps per Local Agency guidelines.
  • Promotes breastfeeding classes with all prenatal clients.
  • May conduct group breastfeeding education class.
  • Refers clients to Breastfeeding team as needed.
  • Performs anthropometric measurements and hematological testing for WIC clients following DHM 150-24 rules and regulations.
  • Determines client eligibility.
  • Provides interactive newsletter contact.
  • Adheres to all WIC regulations, policies and procedures set forth in DHM 150-24.
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings and staff development activities as required.
  • Completes leave, attendance, EARS, travel and any other reports as required and according to established procedures.
  • Participates in end of the month inventory.
  • Assists with organizing and filing training records for all staff.
  • Assists with inputting monthly appointment schedule as per direction of site supervisor.
  • Provides professional and administrative support to nutrition program director.
  • Completes assigned administrative projects and assigned reports in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
